How do I create a new Access Data Project (ADP) in Access 2007? The Getting Started Screen always wants to create a new ACCDB file format.
By default, Access 2007 creates new databases in the ACCDB file format. To create a new Access Data Project (ADP), first click the Blank Database button near the top center of the Getting Started screen. Access now displays the Blank Database task pane on the right side of the screen, as shown below.
Click the browse icon, shown above, to open the File New Database window. Next, click the arrow on the Save As Type drop down list and select the Microsoft Office Access Projects (*.adp) option, as shown below.
Browse to a folder location to save your new project, enter a name for the new project in the File Name text box, and then click the OK button to return to the Getting Started screen. Finally, click the Create button in the Blank Database task pane to open your new Access Data Project.
Access then displays a message box asking whether you want to connect to an existing SQL Server database. If you click Yes, Access displays a Data Link Properties dialog box where you enter the connection information for your existing SQL Server database.
If you click No on the message box, Access creates the project for you and opens it. Because this is a new project, the Microsoft SQL Server Database Wizard opens and walks you through the process of creating a new Access Data Project.
Important Note: You won't be able to utilize some of the new features found in the ACCDB file format in your Access Data Project such as Multi-Value Field Lookups and Attachment data types.
