Access 2007 FAQ

How do I get my existing legacy menu bars and toolbars to work in Access 2007? Right now they all show up on the Add-Ins tab.

You'll need to make a few tiny changes to see your custom menu bars and toolbars as menu bars and toolbars. As you can see in the following screenshot, legacy custom menubars and toolbars show up on an Add-Ins tab.

Click the Microsoft Office Button in the upper left corner and then click the Access Options button in the bottom right corner to open the Access Options dialog box. If you need help with that, please see this page: Related Topic

Next, click the Current Database category on the Access Options dialog box.

In the Ribbon and Toolbar Options section select your menu bar name from the Menu Bar combo box. Now clear the following three options in the Ribbon and Toolbar Options section, as seen in the following screenshot:

- Allow Full Menus

- Allow Default Shortcut Menus

- Allow Built-in Toolbars

Click Ok to save and close the Access Options dialog box. Now close your database and then reopen.

Viola, you'll see no signs of the Ribbon now and you'll only see your custom menu bars and toolbars!

Important Note:
Remember that you cannot make any modifications to the menu bars and toolbars through the standard UI in 2007; the capability simply does not exist in Access 2007. You'll need to make these changes in an earlier Access version.
